Indonesia is a dream destination for many people who want to have a good rest by the sea. If you're to stay in Bali or in any other place of Indonesia for a long time, having a clear understanding of the visa options is vital. Here's an overview of the various pathways for securing a long-term stay visa in Indonesia.

Visa Run

One common approach to prolonging your stay past sixty days is a «visa run». It means that you should leave Indonesia and re-enter to apply for a new visa. While straightforward, this method can be costly due to airfare expenses and may draw extra scrutiny from customs officials, often accompanied by additional questions.

Socio-Cultural Visit Visa

This is suitable for those, who are participating in social, cultural, or family activities in Indonesia. It initially permits a sixty-day stay, with the possibility prolong it up to four times, each extension lasting thirty days, totaling a maximum of 180 days. A key requirement is sponsorship from an Indonesian resident. This option is ideal for those engaged in cultural exploration or visiting relatives.

Multiple-Entry Business Visa

While mainly designed for business purposes, this visa also accommodates other activities such as family visits, attending seminars, or delving into Indonesian culture. Valid for 12 months, it permits multiple stays of up to 60 days each during its validity period.

This visa is especially suitable for individuals frequently traveling in and out of Indonesia, as it remains valid upon re-entry. In contrast to single-entry visas, which are invalidated upon exit, the multiple-entry visa gives greater flexibility for long-term visitors with international commitments.

Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas (KITAS)

The KITAS visa is designed for limited stays in Indonesia, catering to a range of reasons such as study, work, investment, etc. A KITAS visa may be granted for a duration of six months and up to two years, with costs ranging from USD 50 to USD 160. Extensions are available, allowing a total stay of up to six years.

There are various types of KITAS visas tailored to specific needs, such as:

  • Marriage KITAS for foreign nationals, who are married to Indonesian citizens.
  • Work KITAS for employment in Indonesia.
  • Family KITAS for visiting relatives.

You can submit applications either at the Indonesian embassy or consulate in your homeland, or via a guarantor in Indonesia at the Directorate General of Immigration in Jakarta.

Second Home Visa

The Second Home Visa provides a long-term residency opportunity for investors, retirees and financially independent individuals seeking to establish a home in the Republic of Indonesia. Granting 5- or 10-year residency, this visa necessitates that applicants:

  • Show proof of funds of at least IDR 2 billion (around USD 128,400) in an Indonesian bank account.
  • Provide a valid passport with at least thirty six months of remaining validity.

This visa is not intended for employment but offers an excellent option for those pursuing a relaxed lifestyle or retirement. The Directorate General of Immigration processes applications, ensuring extended residency with fewer renewal formalities.

Golden Visa

Indonesia's Golden Visa targets foreign investors and skilled professionals driving the Indonesian economic growth. Available in 5- and 10-year durations, this visa offers benefits such as multiple-entry privileges and family inclusion. Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Applicants should be 18 years old or older.
  • Applicants must hold a passport valid for at least six months.
  • Submit evidence of financial capability (minimum USD 5,000).
  • A clean criminal record is mandatory.

Applications should be sent via Indonesia's official e-Visa portal, making the process streamlined and accessible.
